Segureño lamb with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), a mark of differentiated quality that serves to designate an agri-food product, originating in a territory, which has characteristics, qualities or reputation that are due to that origin. In this case, the mountains around the Segura river, hence its name, where cold and dry and hot summers condition the vegetation and, therefore, the fauna that feeds on it. Producing a mountain breed, athletic and with clear meat aptitude, producing excellent quality carcasses weighing between 9 and 13 kg. The meat is pale pink in color with a level of fat coverage and optimal infiltration, which gives it great juiciness. It is characterized by a mild flavor and fat.
Schedule. The last week of September the Segureña Sheep Breed National Auction Contest and the Agro-livestock Fair are held. A week full of activities related to Segureño lamb: gastronomic workshops, cooking recipe contests, tastings at popular prices of Segureño lamb to all attendees during the days of the fair.
