CUSTARD APPLE OF TROPICAL SEA

Originally from the bordering Andean area between Ecuador and Peru, after the discovery of America, it was introduced in East, via Africa, by the first Spanish navigators. When they discovered it in America, they called it “blancmanges”. There is evidence of its existence on the Granada coast for more than 400 years, but its cultivation itself began in the 1940s.

It is one of the queens of the subtropical in the Tropical Coast, in fact it is catalogued with its Denomination of Origin.

Of a light green color on the outside, when we open it, we find a white pulp with numerous seeds; and surprises the palate with its sweet and exotic flavor. Its characteristics are provided by the specificities of the Fino de Jete variety, an autochthonous variety born in the Costa Tropical of Granada.

Schedule: The Torrecuevas neighborhood, in the town of Almuñécar, welcomes the Chirimoya Festivities at the beginning of September, with nearly fifty years of history. In these celebrations, attendees can taste, in addition to this fruit, some of the traditional dishes of the town.
