CITRICS OF LECRÍN

If there is a crop that has roots in the Lecrín Valley, it is citrus. The oranges, mandarins or lemons are the symbol of their agricultural history, in fact it was around the twelfth century XII when they were introduced in this fields by the Arab culture. And now they constitute one of the main economic supports of the area at agro-industrial level, in addition favored by the climatologic conditions giving rise to optimum ripening conditions.

To this must be added its strategic location, which causes ripening to be delayed compared to other areas of Spain and, therefore, it remains on the tree for much longer. A special microclimate that gives, especially to its oranges, that stamp of peculiarity.

Schedule: During the month of March, the Orange Festival is celebrated in the Lecrín Valley, an event that includes tastings of characteristic dishes made with these fruits such as the classic soak, migas (breadcrumbs) or orange juice, as well as tourist routes and various activities.
